In a recent interview with Mayor Meyer about the enforcing of traffic in Rockdale, Mr. Meyer said, “Citizens of Rockdale seem to have the idea that traffic rules and regulations are not intended to be observed except on Saturdays when our country friends throng the town or on holidays when our streets are filled to overflowing with automobiles. They could not be more mistaken in this view. The ordinance covering the street traffic was passed for the purpose of preventing congestion of streets by vehicles, etc., and the law applies to rich and poor alike, on each and every day of the year.

It’s not the kind of thing that’s supposed to happen in places like Rockdale. Except it did. A 52-year-old man and 48-year-old woman were shot to death at a Murray Avenue residence in what police were terming a “murder- suicide.” Dead were John Keith Andrus, whom police identified as the shooter, and Deidreer Coleman Fowler, said to be Andrus’ girlfriend.
