Dur to the personal effort of Alderman Branch Lewis and football fan N.M. Bullock, the members of the Rockdale and Rogers High School football teams were tendered an oyster supper last Friday evening following the game between the two teams on the local grid. The banquet was served at the Mrosko Cafe, and covers were laid for seventy- five, and every place filled/ In addition to the football players there were present members of the City Council, School Board, the entire Rockdale Public School faculty, and a few invited guests. Mr. Mrosko and his good wife had spared no trouble or expense to make the affair a success, and it was without doubt one of the nicest banquets ever served in Rockdale. The menu included oyster cocktail, fried oysters, Saratoga chip potatoes, pickles, celery, etc. followed by mince pie and coffee.
Turning a complete passenger train over without injuring anyone is the experience the train crew on the S.A.&A.P. “plug run” between Rockdale and Waco had Tuesday morning. Train NO. 54, leaving Rockdale at 8:10 a.m. was wrecked five miles north of town, due it is thought, to spreading rails.” The engine continued to run about one train’s length after leaving the rails. The baggage car turned completely over on its side, and Express Messenger Graves miraculously escaped injury, the latticed flooring catching in such a manner as to protect him from falling boxes and loose articles in the car. The two regular day coaches went in the ditch, and while not on their sides, were pitched at dangerous angles. There were only six passengers, none of whom were even slightly injured.
The public is invited to come Friday night to the Presbyterian Church at 7 p.m. You will not need to prepare your suppers at home/ Pies, cakes, sandwiches, coffee, punch, doughnuts, etc. will be sold for small sums. Sandwiches at 5 cents. All eats from 1 to 5 cents. Games and other social features will be items of attraction.

It seemed like most of Thorndale, and much of Milam County, turned out in the Thorndale Chamber of Commerce Meeting Room Monday to honor Newton Butts, who has retired and closed the legendary Butts Dry Goods store, which was in existence for 82 years. Butts, 86, operated the store for 60 years. It was begun by his father. L. G. Butts in 1932. Well-wishers visited Butts and his wife, Tinker, and reminisced about old times. The “home owned” store was one of the last of its kind in Central Texas and was famed for its personal service and quality clothing lines.
