The Department of Commerce through the Bureau of the Census, announces the preliminary report on cotton ginned by counties in Texas, ginned prior to November 14, for the crop of 1924. The total for the state is 4,135,452 bales as compared with 3,698,523 bales in 1923. Milam County stands fifteenth in the list of heaviest producers.
New comes from Cameron that Buck Bonds, son of our townsman, John Bonds, is ill at his home there with a well-developed case of smallpox. The disease developed on Tuesday of last week, and proper quarantine measures were at once adopted. The Reporter was informed that his is the only case in Cameron, and the health authorities are at a loss to explain it. The theory has been advanced that Mr. Bonds contracted the disease through handling dirty money at the bank where he is employed.
The Matinee Musical Club met Saturday afternoon, Nov. 29, with Mrs. Jesse Garrett as hostess. The study for the afternoon was Italian music. Responses to the roll call were names and composers of Italian opera. The game for the afternoon was hidden names of composers and was much enjoyed. Following this Mrs. Garrett, ably assisted by Mary Elizabeth and Jenkins, served lovely refreshments consisting of creamed oysters, buttered toast, stuffed celery, peach salad, potato chips and hot coffee.
Coach Magee will issue 13 letters this year. He loses only three of the men by graduation. They are Wilburn James, Wade (Doe) Harris and Capt. Wesley Blackburn. The letter men of this year are Lee Bartlett, Martin Blackburn, David Kestenbaum, Boswell Newton, Floyd Allen, Calvin Scott, Preston Harris, Glen Lincoln, Newton Daniels, Wade Harris, Welburn James, B.F. McCoy and Wesley Blackburn.

Approximately 200 visitors viewed the latest in healthcare equipment and technology from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday when Richards Memorial Hospital held a 10th anniversary open house. The 47-bed hospital opened for business in December of 1974 after a huge community fund drive and planning/construction effort. Last year the hospital added a professional wing and by the end of 1984 the m edical s taff w ill h ave been expanded to 13 physicians.
Grand opening of Orsag’s appliance center in Rockdale kicked off at 10 a.m. Thursday with a ribbon cutting under the auspices of the Chamber of Commerce.

The fifth annual “Holiday Express nighttime Christmas parade will roll downtown from Fair Park at 6:30 p.m. Martha Parsley will be parade Grand Marshall. Sha and husband Harold have been Rockdale residents since 1967 when they moved to Rockdale to operate the Dixie and Reel Drive-In theaters. “Sha has been very involved in our community,” said Denise Doss Chamber President. “We are blessed to have her in our town as a volunteer and businesswoman.”

Rockdale’s second annual “Christmas at the Kay” musical celebration of the season will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the historic, restored Kay Theater downtown. Music will be performed by the Communities in Concert Band and the Rockdale Community Choir, both under the direction of Lee Thomason. Also featured will be the Rising Star Baptist Church choir, the Meadowbrook Baptist Church choir and the chancel choir of St. John’s United Methodist Church.
