William Dalrymple, 81-yearsold, who resided eight miles East of Lexington, died Wednesday afternoon after a few days’ illness. Mr. Dalrymple was one of the best-known men in this area. Thursday, just twelve hours after his death, and as funeral arrangements were being made for him, his wife, Mrs. Joie Dalrymple, died. She was 74.
At a meeting of the directors of the Thorndale Mercantile Company held here Tuesday an agreement was reached between a majority of the stockholders and Rivers Brothers of Elgin whereby the latter buys controlling interest in the business and take direct charge of the management at once. We understand that Rivers Brothers will continue the business and serve the trade of this territory without interruption and without any material changes in policy or practices so far as is known at the present time.
Mrs. Miriam A. Ferguson signed her name and took the oath of office as Governor of Texas at twelve o’clock today and took upon her shoulders the administration of the largest state in the Union. Chief Justice Cureton of Supreme Court administered the oath to Mrs. Ferguson, who repeated the sentences in a low tone. Seventeen military guns fired the Governor’s salute marking the close of the Neff administration and a similar salute was accorded Mrs. Ferguson. She was dressed in dark silk overlaid with steel beads and wearing a black hat. An ostrich plume neckpiece surmounted a dark wrap.
Mrs. C.M. Perr y entertained the Wednesday Auction Bridge Club January 13. Danity hand-painted tally and score pads were used. the course luncheon was served. Mrs. Quebe was presented with a beautiful basket. Beautiful flowers were artistically arranged throughout the house. Mrs. John Early Lee was presented with a cut glass perfume bottle.

An arctic cold front roared through central Texas with strong winds and 15-degreee temperatures overnight Saturday, but Rockdale and Milam County escaped major damage. Both the Rockdale Police Department and the Milam County Sheriff’s office said no major damage reports were received. The winds did knock out some of the electric power in Cameron and some rural subdivisions near Rockdale, but power was restored by Sunday night. Sunday’s high was only 25 degrees according to Mr. and Mrs. G.E. Swearingen, Rockdale’s official weather observers, and the mercury dipped to a winter’s low of 14-degrees early Monday.

The world’s largest passenger plane, the Airbus 380 which was unveiled last week in Toulouse, France, is made in part of aluminum smelted at Alcoa’s Rockdale Operations. the 800 passenger, 7-story-high, 260-foot-wide “passenger plane of the future” may have been a joint venture between several European countries, but Alcoa facilities in Rockdale and Davenport, Iowa, played a major part in its construction.

Young and not- quite-asyoung turned out on a perfect Central Texas winter afternoon Sunday for Rockdale’s annual Martin Luther King Day Parade. About 100 marched, or rode, down the street named for Dr. King. Community leader Billy Ray Locklin was parade grand marshal. (He was to have shared the honor with wife, Laura, who was ill and unable to attend.) Parade donations were received from the following churches: Springfield Baptist, New Hope Baptist, Rising Star Baptist, Allen AME, New Jerusalem and Pecan Street Church of Christ; also from Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home, Gill’s, Germania Insurance and Love’s Flowers & Gifts.
