The Rockdale School Board has received from the State Department of Education a copy of the official report made to that department by Miss Katherine Henderson, Supervisor, who visited the school about a month ago, spending an entire day in going over the plant and studying conditions. The report as a whole reflects credit on the school. “The old high school building has been remodeled into a modern primary building at an expense of $8,000. This with the splendid high school building erected in 1922 gives Rockdale an educational plant which fully meets the needs of the community, and which is rightly a source of pride to the entire citizenship. The library has received special attention. The room has been made attractive by new cases and reading table. Besides books have been added. Over $300 has been spent on books and equipment. Drinking fountains for the primary grades have been installed at an expense of $25; Brunswick bought for $80; final payment of $127 has been made on piano; $50 has been invested in playground equipment.”
On ac c ount o f t he increased interest in the oil business quite a few transient people are coming to town looking for rooms. The Chamber of Commerce has a bulletin board at Quebe & Prewitt’s Drug Store where vacant rooms and houses used to be listed. These lists are now obsolete so the Young Men’s Business League has taken it upon themselves to revise these lists, and ask that all those who have vacant houses or rooms to rent advise either Mr. E.I. Wade, secretary of the YMBL, or Mr. N. Stricker, giving number of rooms and phone number and they will be posted free of charge.
The five carloads of gravel donated by the S.A & A.P. Railroad were unloaded and spread on East Cameron Avenue last week by the city, the work starting at the Sap tracks and continuing up the street as far as the H.T. Coulter corner. There is some talk of more gravel being spread this same plan, but The Reporter is not fully informed. The railroad company is to be commended for its part in the work.
The Rockdale Lion’s Club enjoyed their usual weekly luncheon at the Larrieu Hotel Thursday. Mirth and good fellowship prevailed throughout the luncheon. Mrs. Robert Lee Hale, at the piano, accompanied by her husband on the violin, delighted the “Kings of Beast” as she sang charmingly.
