Remember the Divine injunction “cleanliness is next to Godliness.” In accordance with civic duty, it is ordered that Friday, May 15, be set aside as Clean Up Rockdale. Proper committees will be appointed, the city divided into sections, and everyone is urged to cleanse his premises, streets and alleys. All Ladies’ and Men’s organizations are urged to get behind the movement and help make and keep a clean town. Done at Rockdale, Texas, this April 30, 1925. Signed Mayor H.C. Meyer.
The program given by the Aycock High School Glee Club, on last Friday night, proved to be a highly successful entertainment and was a treat. The boys and girls, 14 in number, composing the glee club, gave evidence of having had careful and efficient training along the lines composing the program, and their rendition of spiritual and popular songs of the times, was heartily applauded by the audience.
The weekly luncheon of the Lions Club of Rockdale was featured last Thursday by talks “for the good of the community” by various members. Lion Loewenstein started it when he suggested a plan of the Lions taking their weekly luncheon occasionally in some neighboring community in Rockdale’s tributary territory. Lion I.P. Sessions gave Lion Loewenstein’s suggestion his hearty “okay,” adding to the suggestion certain ideas of his own. While no action was taken the way was paved for future considerations of the important service of the assisting in the “tying up” of town and country.
Now comes the close of the school year—the time when the honor graduates are found. This year in the senior class Doreen Orr was found to be the Valedictorian; Catherine Stribling, Salutatorian; and Leon Albrecht, the winner of the scholarships for boys. Ward Lightfoot and Dorothea Phillips receive honorable mention as being the next highest students to these.

Brazos Street near the intersection of Meadow Drive looked like Old Faithful early Saturday morning as a ruptured waterline sent streams of water 40 to 50 feet into the air. A construction accident at approximately 8 a.m. resulted in two holes being punched in a 6-inch waterline, carrying 60pounds of pressure, according to Jim Fischer, city public works director. “I’d estimate it was 45 minutes before we were able to get the water disconnected and that about 5,000 to 10,000 gallons were lost.” Fischer said full water services were restored by noon

If you build it, they will skate. Actually if you just give them a taste of what’s going to be built, they still skate. that was proved Saturday at as Fair Park was the site for Sk8Fest, an event that was planned to give a taste of what Rockdale’s permanent skate park will be like when it’s built near the corner of Mill and Wilcox. “We raised about $900 during the Sk8Fest,” Lin Perry, skate park developer said. “That’s not counting a $500 donation toward the skate park from Rockdale Signs Unlimited.”

One of the most unique benefits in the history of Rockdale will unreel May 17 at the KC Hall, to assist a pair of sisters and their families. Lacy Pipkin Barcak received 60 percent of her sister’s (Lani Pipkin Young) liver after being diagnosed with a life-threatening disease. Organizers of the Lacy Barcak/Lani Young Living Donor Benefit—Melanie Barcak, Amber Robertson, Angel Miller and Deedra Jacob— said the event is being held to help the families deal with the “extraordinary cost of the operation and the daily expenses incurred during recovery.”
It will include a barbecue, live aucti0n, fund-raising drawings and live music.
