100 YEARS AGO...
The Rockdale Reporter presented the complete program for the County Interscholastic School Meet which was to come to Rockdale April 15. It wasn’t decided until the first of the week that the event would be held in Rockdale, and the arrangements were quickly made.
The first quarterly meeting of the Milam County Bankers Association was held in Rockdale at the Chamber of Commerce Rooms in City Hall on April 12.
A mass meeting of farmers was held at the courthouse in Cameron on April 9 to discuss the organization of a Farm Bureau in Milam County.
The Reporter received information from the S.A. & A.P. Railroad that their two-reel picture film, entitled “Goodbye, Boll Weevil” had been received and would soon be shown for free.
FORTY YEARS AGO...
Pending approval of an environmental impact statement by the federal government, Rockdale had been selected as the site for what was ultimately envisioned as a 2,000-megawatt power plant. The projected time line had the first unit beginning construction in February of 1983.

Rockdale City Council members lent an unsympathetic ear to Classic Cable pleas asking for more time to improve services in light of the city’s nonperformance claim. The council was to set a public hearing at next month’s meeting for the public to air its complaints to a Classic Cable representative before the possible revocation of the cable contract. Milam County commissioner had a message for the Texas Legislature: We’re country and we like it that way. The commissioners passed a resolution asking that Milam County remain in state legislative District 13, a predominantly rural area.

Dustin Strelsky of Rockdale, 2011 Texas champion on the Children’s Miracle Network, was to appear at a network fundraiser at a local convenience store.
Two persons were hurt March 30 in a one-vehicle accident near Thorndale, according to State Trooper Ernest DelBosque, who investigated.
They called them the Boys (and Girls) of Summer. Rockdale’s Youth Baseball Association (RYBA) got a big jump on summer, holding opening ceremonies for the 2011 season on April 2. League president Tom Loth said play was under way for 230 youngsters on 21 teams in five leagues. “We’ve got something going on just about every evening and will have games through mid June,” he said. There was a new parking lot at the RYBA complex, located at the north end of Copeland Street, and new dugouts had been installed at all fields for 2011.
