Arrested just about noon, Jim Broz, a bohemian tenant on the Sanders farm, five miles west of Cameron, was placed under $1,000 bond which he made. The arrest of Broz followed information lodged with Sheriff L.L. Blaylock, that Broz was conducting an illicit still. The officers found a regular copper still of ten-gallon capacity in operation on the kitchen stove in the Broz home, with five gallons of perfectly good whiskey secreted under a pile of dirty clothes. Mrs. Broz was inclined to make considerable trouble at first but was finally persuaded not to use any more Bohemian language.
40 YEARS AGO… A grand opening of
A grand opening of Brookshire Brothers was held after remodeling was completed adding an addition 9,000 square feet.
The PTO’s annual carnival began with a downtown parade with kids in their Halloween costumes led by Principal Eldon Ball. The it was on to the elementary gymnasium for games, food and fun.
After numerous fender benders, the corner of Bell Street and Ackerman was finally made into a four way stop with the help f State Representative Dan Kubiak.
The home of Linwood and Pauline Mehaffey was scheduled to be part of the 1981 Home Tour. The house is decorated eclectically with cherished family heirlooms, antiques and unusual objects from Egypt, India and the Orient, places visited by the Mehaffeys.
20 YEARS AGO…

Home economist Margaret McCutcheon came to town and cooked up one of the biggest crowds ever at the Rockdale High School auditorium A near capacity crowd of over 700 cheered the first Taste of Home Cooking School sponsored by The Rockdale Reporter and the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce.
10 YEARS AGO…
Nov. 11 is Veterans Day and all four Rockdale ISD campuses are planning observances, including the return of a Rockdale tradition. Elementary and intermediate students will combine in the elementary gym at 2 p.m. that day for a program of patriotic music, according to Principals Sandee Calame and Kathy Pelzel.
A whole lot of 1976 glory visited Rockdale Friday as the RHS state champion football and track teams from 1976-77, including head coach Fred Johnson and assistants Lew Simmonds and Dick Wiegand, were honored at the fifth annual Rockdale Sports Hall of Honor induction Friday.
