Plans were made for the Rockdale Public Schools to hold a Halloween Carnival on the school campus on Oct. 31. This would be a festival in the true sense of the word—outdoors under canvas, homemade candy, popcorn balls, lemonade, sandwiches and tea, sideshows, fishing ponds and lots of fun for everybody. If you were scared of spooks, wear your rabbit foot, for all the hobgoblins and witches would be there.
The new, up-to-date Sherar’s Soda Parlor was formally opened to the public when Mrs. C.H. Sherar entertained her many friends with a reception. Assisting in receiving were Lon Hudson and Leonard Isaacs. The chosen color scheme of pink and white was effectively carried out, the entire parlor being a bank of graceful ferns and la France roses, while hanging baskets of dainty blossoms and others filled with the same blooms were place everywhere in profusion. Delicious cake and cherry brick cream were served at tables ornamented with pink roses.
Louise Hale was a most charming hostess to the Matinee Musical Club meeting. Members responded to roll call with current musical events. After a short business session and a well rendered program, a novel musical game was enjoyed in which Mrs. Bruce Gentry won and received a beautiful buffet scarf as reward. The club was then invited into the beautiful dining room by the hostesses’ mother, Mrs. Hale, and a most beautiful sight greeted all. The large centerpiece of yellow cosmos and banks of yellow roses used in decoration suggested Halloween, which was further carried out in the place cards of that design.
