In another week daylight savings time will end and I’m not happy about it even though this is the one where we get an extra hour of sleep. I hate when it’s dark as soon as you get home from work.
I can understand why we do it, mainly so kids won’t be waiting for the bus in the dark. But I still don’t like it. I’m always so happy in the spring when it starts again and the nights are light longer.
Arizona doesn’t do it. At my last job in Houston our lab was located in Phoenix and it was always a pain dealing with the lab people during daylight savings time.
But we still have to do it. Don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour on Saturday night, Nov. 6, before you go to bed or you’ll be an hour early for whatever you do on Sundays.
This Saturday is your last opportunity to shop at the farmers market at the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce building.
It sure has grown this year. There are lots of items that haven’t been sold in years past. Great job Rockdale Chamber of Commerce.
The good news is it will start back up in a different location on Saturday, Nov. 6. The Market at The 1895 on Burleson Street will have some of your favorite vendors from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This market will run from November to March except for holiday weekends when it will start again next year at the Chamber of Commerce location.
There are lots of Halloween events happening this weekend. Look on the Faith page for a list of churches and other organizations having festivities.
Mark your calendars for December 4 when the 16th annual Buddy Oney Toy Run will happen this year. The Bad to the Bone Riders have raised over $94,000 for the less fortunate children of Milam County and it’s a great way to start off the holiday season.
All of the proceeds go to The Milam County Child Protective Services, Milam County Brown Santa Program, Thorndale Cares and The Rockdale Christmas Round up.
Check the front page for more information.
They say music soothes the savage beast in all of us so head to the Rockdale High School gym at 6:30 p.m. on Monday to hear the annual Fall Band Concert.
Band director, Adrian Acevedo, says, “The concert will feature performances by the Rockdale Junior High Beginning Band, the RJH Symphonic Band, the RHS Jazz Band and the RHS Big Blue Band. Admission is free and the general public is invited.”
I don’t know about y’all but I’m already tired and the holiday season is just getting started.
