MISD REPORT

Fall is a great time of the year. I really enjoy the change in the weather pattern where we leave the oppressive heat and walk out early in the morning to cool, crisp weather.

In the not to distant future we will have our first frost and prepare to transition to the winter months.

One of the annual events each fall here at school is our annual Milano Elementary Fall Festival.

This year’s Fall Festival was held on  Tuesday at the elementary campus.

Each grade level sponsored games and had a different themed basket in the silent auction as well. It is a great way to help support our school, not to mention that it was lots of fun.

The kids had a blast and the adults enjoy being able to see one another and visit. Thank you for your generosity and for helping our students at Milano Elementary School.

Our girl’s volleyball team made the playoffs once again this season.

They are a very good volleyball squad and exciting to watch. Coach Wendy King always has the girls well prepared and ready to compete.

The girls are set to face Snook in the Bi-District round of the playoffs. If we win, additional playoff information will be posted on our our website and Face-book page with regards to the time, date and location of the Area round matchup.

Our cross-country runners put in lots of miles over the course of the season.

They are up and running on most mornings well before most students get out of bed.

There are times I arrive at school by 6 a.m. or shortly thereafter and I see our runners out running.

Their discipline, dedication, and hard work paid off on Monday of last week at the regional meet in Corpus Christi.

Freshman Andy Gutierrez finished in the top third out of approximately 150 runners, while senior Parker Jones captured his second consecutive regional championship.

Parker will now run at the State Cross Country meet at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock on Saturday.

His race is slated to start at 11:30 a.m. Come on out and support Parker in his quest to capture another state medal.

Our varsity football team is battling for a spot in the state playoffs again this year. They travel to Rosebud-Lott this week to face the cougars.

If we can pull off the victory, we can assure ourselves of another trip to the playoffs.

Come out and support our Eagles as we strive to return to the playoffs.

A couple of weeks ago was National School Bus Safety Week.

Milano ISD buses are on the road as early as 6 a.m. and transport many of our students to and from school daily, covering many miles every day.

Our regular route drivers, Lyndsie Willingham, Nick Morehead, Tina Smith, Powell Compton and Wendy Stewart do a great job of “Moving our Students to Learn” in a safe manner every day.

They are greatly appreciated.
