There’s an important fundraiser on Saturday. The Bad to the Bone Riders will hold the 23rd annual MARC Ride which raises money for the Milam Adult Resource Center (MARC). There are many ways you can help out both these wonderful organizations.

Barbecue plates are going on sale for $15 at 11:30 a.m. until they are sold out. There is also a live auction and a 50/50 drawing.

Last year I went to MARC on Pecos Avenue to take photos and you should do yourself a favor and show up there about 11 a.m. to watch how excited the consumers are when all the motorcycles come down the street. The consumers pick a favorite and they get an award.

I have to admit that I teared up last year and probably will again this year watching them excitedly waving their signs and banners because sometimes I’m a little too mushy and sentimental for this job. -kwc At long last the Sesquicentennial issue of FYI is in your paper today. This was an enormous undertaking and I have lots of people I’d like to thank.

First off is the sesquicentennial booklet committee. All of the writing was done by Geri Burnett, Lynn Young, Barbara Nelson, Joan Ratliff, and a special history of Rockdale that was written by our favorite historian, Dr. Lucile Estell.

They’ve included our history, our historical markers, the history of our schools and lots of old photos of our town.

There was, in fact, so much information that not all of it would fit in the book, so there is much more here https:// www.rockdaletx.gov/390/ Rockdale-150th-Birthday.

The issue includes a schedule of all the events you’ll be able to attend starting July 4, so keep it handy so you’ll know where to go.

I’d also like to thank our advertisers. We could not have done this special keepsake issue without your support. And thank you to Mary Lou Loehr who was responsible for getting all of you in the program. And another special thanks to the Sesquicentennial sponsors for making a lot of the events possible.

More thanks for The Reporter’s production guru, Shannon Whorton, who put the whole thing together and made it look so good.

City Manager Barbara Holly and City Secretary Shanna Johnson were both a huge help in getting everything together.

Everyone involved is so excited to see it finally in its finished form and we all hope you enjoy it too. -kwc And finally, another funny from Ashley McKee Karl.

An applicant was filling out a job application. When he came to the question, “Have you ever been arrested?” he wrote, “No.”

The next question, intended for people who had answered in the affirmative to the previous question, was “Why?”

The applicant answered it anyway: “Never got caught.”
