Dear editor,
The MARC Ride began as a Motorcycle Poker Run. It was sponsored by the Tropicana Club and a group of bikers. I read in The Rockdale Reporter that first year that a group was sponsoring a Poker Run to benefit the MARC Center. Cathy Gregorcyk was running the Tropicana Club in the old Andy's Restaurant Building. The first three years were poker runs out of that facility. When Cathy and Russell opened The Ranch, it became the MARC Run and the name was later changed to the MARC Ride. Charles Starr and Neal Ferrell were approached a few years later into the event to organize and bring more bikers to help.
The MARC Ride has provided funds for the expansion of the MARC building in 2011, summer camp for MARC participants, Dream Week (a week of activities) for those who cannot go to camp, a storage shed, a gazebo, basketball court, parties throughout the year, a van for transporting participants and a means for the upkeep of our facility.
The MARC Board and MARC families are grateful to the organizers of this event and the community that supports us each year at the MARC Ride. The generosity of the organizers and the people who support this event continues to amaze us all. This has been an awesome year.
Ann King
President, MARC Board of Directors
