Burn ban in effect

As of 12:01 p.m. Thursday, June 16, a countywide burn ban is in effect. Drought conditions, high winds and extreme temperatures warrant the burn ban.

This week, large grass fires have required us to call out the Forestry Service to help put out the fires.

In addition, this puts a large strain on our volunteer fire departments and puts everyone in jeopardy.

Fireworks ban for July Fourth

A fireworks ban on “skyrockets and “rockets with fins” as defined by 49 C.F.R. Sec. 173.100(r)(2) will be in effect for Milam County for the July 4, 2022 holiday. Embers from this type of fireworks can travel for up to one mile and could easily start a fire in these dry conditions.

Milam County Annex grand opening set

The Milam County Annex is near completion. A grand opening is planned for July 21, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Annex. Everyone is invited. Several dignitaries will attend and tours will be available.

A wall plaque will be unveiled and the building will be officially designated as the Milam County Annex.

The new facility will provide one stop shopping for county services including the Tax Assessor/Collector’s office, the County Clerk’s office, the District Attorney’s office; Adult Probation, Juvenile Probation, Workforce Solutions, County Emergency Services, the County Auditor, the County Treasurer, Agri-Life Extension and and Bea’s Kitchen.

The new facility will provide substantial cost savings to every Milam County taxpayer.

Milam County summer office hours

From June 6 to Aug. 5 the Milam County Clerk’s Office and the Tax Assessor/Collector’s office hours will be from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and closed on Fridays. The District Clerk’s office hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, closing at noon on Fridays.

QRV coming soon

Earlier this year, several new solar companies coming to Milam County, along with Texas Country Title, donated $180,000 to enable the county to have a “Quick Response Vehicle.”

The vehicle will be operated by a paramedic and will be dispatched by AMR to assist those within the county that are in need because of medical emergencies.

Hopefully, the vehicle will relieve some of the pressure our ambulance system encounters. We are hoping to have the new vehicle in service by Aug. 1.
