Sale of Alcoa property

Alcoa closed its doors back in 2008 and thereafter began to talk about selling the 31,000 plus contiguous acres the company owned. On Friday, October 29 the property was officially sold to SLR properties.

The new company plans to aggressively develop the land for a number of different uses including commercial, agriculture and other purposes. The new owners will honor the existing leases including the bitcoin miners and solar.

The purchase will not adversely affect the prospects of the new glove company coming to the site. Those currently working for or consulting for Alcoa will continue in their respective roles for a year or so to effectuate a smooth transition.

So far the program has awarded grants to 113 small businesses in the county amounting to over $966,000. This has been a big help to the small business owners of the county and has put almost $1 million back into our local economy right here in Milam County, which helps all of us.
