Town hall meeting with Sen. Schwertner
A town hall meeting is scheduled with State Sen. Charles Schwertner for Wednesday, November, 17 at the Yards of Cameron, located at 301 Adams Avenue beginning at 1 p.m.
Sen. Schwertner represents District 5, which includes Milam County. Sen. Schwertner will bring us up to date on the various issues of the legislative sessions and answer questions. This is open to the public and we invite your attendance and participation.
Sen. Schwertner has been a big supporter of Milam County and we look forward to having him here in the county.
Redistricting for Milam County
With the new 2020 census out, Milam County will have to make some minor precinct changes to equalize the population. The overall population of the county actually decreased just slightly, which is surprising, based on the number of people moving to the county. However, there is a slight imbalance between Precinct 1 and Precinct 4 that the Commissioners Court will take up on Monday, November 15. Precinct 1 is likely to gain a little more territory and Precinct 4 will lose a little to equalize the population.
There is a public hearing at 9:30 a.m. on Monday at the Commissioners Court for anyone who wishes to speak on the matter.
New State Representative District for Milam County
Redistricting will also place Milam County in another district. This will probably mean that our good friend, State Rep. Terry Wilson will no longer be our State Representative.
Terry has been a strong ally and great supporter of Milam County. However, it appears that we may be initially picked up by State Rep. John Cryier, who currently represents District 17. Of course, this is a year off and things could change.
We will certainly miss Terry Wilson.
Veterans Day
Don’t forget that Thursday (Nov. 11) is Veterans Day. Thank every veteran you see for their service. The reason we have representatives, elections and choices is because of our veterans.
Thank you to all who have answered our nation’s call to protect our most sacred freedoms. Your service and sacrifice will not be forgotten. May God bless America!
