Since Mother’s Day is coming up I have to tell you a story about mine. Mom, Dad and I are all three excited about the Jazz and Derby Party coming up on Saturday, but none of us could remember to order the tickets.

Well the other day Mom said she was trying to order the tickets but the computer kept asking her if she was a robot and she didn’t know what to do.

Then last weekend Dad and I were both gone on Saturday morning but we got home about the same time. And what do you think we found? Mom, outside chopping up a copperhead with the hoe. She’s pretty handy to have around, just not for ticket ordering. Which is surprising because she’s very good at Amazon.

I still haven’t decided what our Mother’s Day meal will be, but I’ll bet Dad and I come up with a good plan. We’re going to have a combination Mother’s Day/ Father’s Day get together later with everyone home.

I was invited to the 100th anniversary of the American Legion Post 358 on Monday night. That is a great organization that does a lot of good things for Milam County veterans. Be sure to see the anniversary story on the front page and if you’re into shooting turkeys, they are having a turkey shoot soon. They also treated me to a nice dinner catered by Trey Felton with Thorndale Meat Market. Good stuff.

Are you into dieting using the keto or low carb methods? There are free meetings every Thursday evening at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church. There is also a newcomer meeting at 6:30 before the real meeting starts. Sounds like a good way to make friends and get help if you are struggling.

Be sure to check out page 7A in this week’s paper where you’ll find photos and results of the Dewberry Jam Fiesta 5K. The Alpha Tau Delta ladies are always doing good works around town and they put on another successful run on Sunday.

The other day I was sitting outside and a car stopped and started spray painting the street in front of the house. I was kind of alarmed until I went to look at it. It was these sorority ladies painting arrows so the runners would know which way to go. I felt kinda stupid. Great job again this year, ladies!
