Now that 2022 is nearly upon us it’s time to think about what we want the new year to hold for us. And what we don’t want in 2022.
It would be nice if all the recent Christmas spirit and generosity would stay a while longer into the new year. Kin Hubbard has a famous quote that says, “Next to the circus there ain’t nothing that packs up and tears out faster than the Christmas spirit.” Maybe we could keep that up into the new year.
It’s not just me who suffers from allergies. I know plenty of you do. Cedar Fever has currently got me down. I say we get a group of scientists together to figure out once and for all a drug that works for everyone. A one-size-fitsall solution. Wouldn’t that be nice?
I really had a nice time at both Thanksgiving and Christmas hanging out with my grown nieces and nephews. So, personally, I’d like to have more of that next year. We had lots of laughs and we taught each other a few things we didn’t know. It was fun to see who they are becoming in their young lives.
I’m going to have to add pedicures to my list. I had my first one last week and it was very enjoyable and relaxing. And it won’t be my last. I’ve already scheduled my second one for the end of January. If you haven’t had one I highly recommend it. Melissa Remaley-Pomykal with Inspired Soul Salon and Spa will get you all fixed up. Call her at 512-923-8661. After the past two years I think we could all use some pampering and she knows how to do it.
The worst part about my pedicure was that there was a mirror directly across from where I was sitting. As I saw my mid section spread out in that mirror, I’m going to have to get serious about exercising. It was not a pretty sight. More seafood dishes could help with that. I think I will try to incorporate more into my 2022 meals.
At some point next year all the TxDOT projects both downtown and on the rest of Cameron Avenue will be finished. As a member of the Rockdale Downtown Association I am excited about it because, thanks to Whinstone, we have money for downtown beautification projects which I’m looking forward to. We must all just be patient for a little while longer.
One thing coming up on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022 is a benefit for Charles and Rose Starr which will take place at Brookshire Brothers at 10 a.m. Charles is in recovery from an operation and it is, at the moment, unclear whether or not he will be able to return to work. The benefit will raise money for medical expenses and living expenses while he is not working. Charles does so much for our community with his annual toy drive and the money he raises for the MARC Center. We owe it to him to give back for all of his good deeds. Pulled pork sandwiches, chips and a drink for $10, and there will also be a bake sale. Monetary donations are accepted at Rockdale Federal Credit Union or you can call his brother Kevin at 512-760-0166.
I’d like to see more Michael Mack dancing on the side of the road in Rockdale. I love how everyone has now become accustomed to him and honks and waves at him. I’d love to have some of his happiness and joy.
So make your resolutions – if applicable – and let’s all have a wonderful 2022.
