September 8 was my one-year anniversary of taking over the editor position of The Reporter.

I didn’t realize it until my cousin Bethany told me. I was so nervous in the beginning, having never held this role at any of the newspapers I’ve worked for.

One thing that hasn’t changed over the past year is my worrying about next week’s paper starting on Wednesday afternoon when I begin planning it. But things have always worked out in the end.

Well sor t of. I once mixed up something the American Legion did and said it was the VFW folks.

When the big nitrile glove company was coming to town with all of their jobs, I said it was the American Glove Co. in a big headline on the front page. It was the American Statesman Glove Co.. Somehow the owner of the American Glove Co. got a copy of The Reporter in Dallas, Oregon, of all places, and he let me know he wasn’t moving to Rockdale. Yikes. But he was nice about it.

Pat and Charlie Watson appear in the paper almost every month in something Chamber of Commerce-related and I have accidentally called them Watkins more than once.

So, nothing too terrible, except to Pat Watson.

Cheers to another year! —kwc— London Bridge is Down. I kind of feel like the whole world’s collective grandmother has died. A symbol of stability and unity that is no more. Someone who was a leader but didn’t look at herself that way. She saw herself as a servant of the people and she did exactly that for 70 years.

God Save the King. Only people over 70 have heard that phrase, but we’ll all hear it now that Charles, the longest serving British monarch-in-waiting, who has been the heir apparent since the age of three, is finally having his turn as King.

Charles’ approval rating has climbed since being at a low after his divorce from Diana, but he is nowhere near as popular as The Queen. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out as the world watches. —kwc— Cong r at ulat ion s to Rockdale Earth Day and all the volunteers who showed up on Saturday morning to help make our town a whole lot prettier.

The workers mulched all the 45 trees around town that have been planted by Rockdale Earth Day over the years. The MARC Center flower beds got totally redone and the trees were pruned. Work was also done at the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department and the RISD Administration Office. Great job everyone! —kwc— Plans are already under way for the Thanksgiving Outreach Dinner which will be held this year on Nov. 19 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church on Green Street.

If your church or organization would like to volunteer or donate food, please call Pam King at 512-4302163. —kwc— I had a medical mystery that I have finally solved. When I get my prescriptions, Brookshire’s will often substitute generic brands which is fine by me.

I think I told you before that I take a medicine called Citalopram, which is actually an anti-depressant, but the reason I take it is because a side effect of it is that it helps with pain. And I was having some stress-related pain in my shoulders.

These days I only take one 10 milligram pill even though my prescription says 30 milligrams.

Evidently they came out with a 30 milligram pill instead of only the 10 milligrams, but I didn’t notice.

I have been so sleepy for the past month and I couldn’t figure out why. That’s why. I should probably start reading labels.
