What are you looking forward to doing the most?

What have you not been able to do that you really miss because of the stay-athome order?

I’d have to say eating out in restaurants is my number one. I know we can still order, and I do order, but it’s not the same.

I like to be waited on and laugh with the servers and other patrons.

I miss it so much that I’m putting together a list of all the restaurants in Rockdale with their phone numbers and contact information. Look for it in this week’s paper on page two. Cut it out for a handy reference.

I want all business to be around once this is all over. Restaurants and otherwise.

I did not inherit the shopping gene. I loathe shopping passionately with one exception.

A couple of years ago we had Thanksgiving in Fredericksburg at Ken and Christine’s house. I had never been to Fredericksburg so I was looking forward to it.

Then we went shopping.

There were women involved and I literally thought I was going to die on Main Street.

At the very first store we all went to, the women stayed over an hour. An hour y’all. And there are so many stores.

And granted it was a very nice store. It had lots of unusual things in it that you wouldn’t see anywhere else. None of which I wanted to buy, but 10 minutes maximum was all the time it would take to see everything.

Twice.

I think I went outside three different times to smoke while the women shopped.

Finally Ken had also had enough. He came outside, pointed and said there was a nice wine garden a couple of blocks down.

I was a block ahead of him before he finished his sentence. We didn’t even tell anyone we were leaving.

I’ve digressed, but I do have a point. The only shopping I like to do is grocery shopping.

Before all this COVID-19 mess, my sister-in-law, Noelia, took me to that giant HEB around Hutto.

In Houston I had two HEBs near my house, so I had been spoiled and hadn’t been to a large one since moving to Rockdale.

We spent two joyous hours in the store. I was in heaven. I think I went down every aisle at least twice.

Oh yes, I had a point: I miss leisurely shopping for food.

I enjoy it at Brookshire Bros. too. The leisurely part is what I miss I guess. Nowadays it’s in and out as quickly as possible.

I miss meeting up with friends.

I miss our family get-togethers. We always have a spring get-together but that isn’t going to happen this year. And that’s a shame because we always have a crab and shrimp boil.

But we’re all still alive and that’s the most important thing.

And of all the things we miss, think of how much we’re going to enjoy them when we’re able.
