JUDGE’S COMMENTS
We all understand the importance of teamwork in sports. Teamwork wins games and the same is true in government.
All of those involved in county and city governments have to work together to make good government. I am happy to report that your county and city governments are working closely together.
Last week I invited all of the city mayors to meet with most of our elected and county department heads at our iconic courthouse to discuss many common issues.
Buckholts Mayor Eaton, Cameron Mayor Anderle, Milano Mayor Gage, Rock-dale Mayor King and Thorn-dale Mayor Galbreath met with Sheriff White, DA Torrey, District Clerk Berry, county Clerk, Morgan, Treasurer Acosta, Tax Collector Mueck and many more to talk about those issues.
Of course, the number one issue of common interest is economic development. We discussed the need for and the ways in which our city and county government can work together to take care of the business we have and attract new business.
We talked about the great location of the county as it is located in the middle of the Texaplex, which is the Dallas-Houston-San Antonio Triangle where 70% of the state’s population live, that new home construction in the county doubled from 2017 to 2018 and that cleaning up our cities and county are essential for well-being and proper growth.
There was agreement on these critical issues, and everyone left the inclusive meeting with a feeling of cooperation.
Later in the week the table was turned as Rockdale Mayor John King invited me to attend a Texas Municipal League (TML) meeting in Rockdale.
The TML offers legal and representative services and is primarily concerned with protecting city government.
What a great meeting. Most of the mayors and city officials of Milam county were in attendance to hear from the keynote speaker, Representative Terry Wilson who also touched on the importance of city and county governments working together.
Your city and county governments are working together for the betterment of every citizen of the county. Together we can solve problems such as economic growth and infrastructure in ways that are much more productive and beneficial. I am pleased to report a renewed spirit of cooperation.
