On page 7A of this week’s paper you will find a full-page ad announcing the winners of the first annual Best of Rockdale contest sponsored by the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce.

Congratulations to all the winners, and congratulations also to Curah Beard and Denise Brock for all the hard work involved in putting this contest together. It’s such a nice way to give kudos to Rockdalians’ favorite businesses.

And speaking of the Chamber of Commerce, it is also a nice organization to be involved in. Lots of the winners in the Best of Rockdale contest are members of the chamber, and they are a great resource for businesses. If you haven’t joined the chamber you should

If you haven’t joined the chamber you should definitely consider it if only for the networking opportunities.

However, there are plenty of other reasons to join:

• The Chamber of Commerce unifies the public spirit of our community and directs it into useful and constructive channels. • You have a business stake in this communi

• You have a business stake in this community that can best be safeguarded by working with others through the Chamber of Commerce to protect and advance all business.

• Your support is rolled back into the community to yield benefits in new industry, health, safety, legislation, business protection and community advancement.

• Through the Chamber of Commerce, you can best meet your civic obligations to the community in which you live and earn your living.

• You realize that every person owes a debt to the community that cannot be paid in taxes —a debt of personal service.

• Involvement and membership in our Chamber of Commerce carries with it a sense of accomplishment and inner satisfaction from the knowledge that you are doing your share to support our community.

• Although everyone in the community benefits from the work of the Chamber of Commerce, you can accept those benefits with a sense of pride only if you have had a part in bringing them about.

In addition to those benefits, the chamber also sponsors community events like the annual Easter Egg Hunt, Breakfast with Santa, Holiday Float Parade, the Milam County July 4th Fireworks Celebration.

In 2019 they brought the Whistle Stop Wine Tour to Rockdale and drew a lot of traffic to area businesses. And they are also one of the partnering entities who produce the Fall Music Festival.

The Rockdale Reporter has been a chamber member since 1952 and we’re very proud of our longevity.

Denise Brock, Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, sums it up best, “We appreciate all of our members and work hard to create opportunities to promote their businesses. Member dues support our mission to strengthen businesses and our community.”
