Dear editor,

Rockdale Christian Services extends a heartfelt thank you to our community for their generosity in support of the “Brown House” food pantry. Even with our reduced operations, we were able to provide food to an average of 150 families (290 individuals) per month this past year.

Our food outreach is made possible through many avenues: grants, community donations of money and food, revenue from Heavenly Treasures’ sales and partnerships with Brookshire Brothers, Central Texas Food Bank of Austin and Walmart. Most importantly, thousands of volunteer hours are required to make this all possible.

We are grateful for our volunteers at Heavenly Treasures who sort through tons of donations in order to provide the finest selections at our thrift store. As a reminder, we accept gently used items for resale. Items that don’t meet our standards are redirected to Goodwill and other outlets.

A special shout out to the Rockdale Knights of Columbus Council #7014, Hunter’s Chase management and Rockdale Senior Citizen Center for assisting with the heavy lifting and food distribution activities. We are also thankful for our partners at Springfield Baptist Church for their assistance with our monthly produce distribution on the third Friday of each month.

Between food donations and direct purchase, we were able to distribute over 36 tons of food this past year! This is all made possible through the generosity of our community and our above-mentioned partners.

As a reminder, we also co-sponsor the CTFB mobile pantry with Rockdale Knights of Columbus Council #7014. Distribution is open to all and occurs on the first and third Thursday of each month at the KC Hall from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

We graciously thank the community for their continued support, whether it be volunteer hours, donations of food, gently used household items or monetary. Without each and every one of you our food outreach would not be possible.
