Iknow not everyone is happy about the time change, but I certainly am. I wish the powers that be would leave it at this time permanently. Both days of the weekend were such pretty days, but the evenings are still little cold for my liking. But better weather is coming.
I cleaned out a flower bed that I grow zinnias in on Sunday and my 60-year-old back was feeling it on Monday. And I only got halfway through. Another day.
I got quite a shock over the weekend when I received an email from the company where I have my entire Houston life stored. They were mad because I didn't give them a 10-day notice before moving and leaving my storage unit unlocked and empty.
I wrote back and said, 'It better not be unlocked and empty!'
It wasn't. It was the one next door to mine, so no harm, no foul. Just a number mix up that anyone could make. But I was mad until I got the reply that it had all been a mistake.
I really need to get rid of all that stuff anyway. And some of it just needs to be gone through to see if I really need it like papers and that sort of thing. I haven't seen any of it since I put it in there in 2019.
I need to hold a big garage sale or something. Or take it to the new consignment store behind Cardinal Roofing. I haven't been in there yet.
The thing that I kept thinking until I knew it was a mistake was how happy I was that I didn't trust my movers with the really important things that I packed in my car and brought back on my own. —kwc— Friday night I went to a new thing called Eastside Market which is held in the parking lot of Last Call Bar and Lounge on Plum Street. There were all kinds of vendors and some especially good food like grilled cheese sandwiches with all kinds of fillings, the Pupusa ladies were there and if you haven't tried one of their delicious creations you really are missing out.
Texas Crab House out of Bryan was also there with a big food truck and some delicious smelling seafood. This event will take place on the second and fourth Fridays of the next several months from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at this location. —kwc— And speaking of markets, Denise Brock at the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce told me that the Saturday farmers markets will be starting back on Saturday, April 6. At the moment they are trying to decide whether to have it at Wolf Park or move it back to the chamber building where it used to be. Will let you know when I find out.
Either place is fine with me. I also hear Mr. Joe Hairston will be back wherever it turns out to be with his delicious tomatoes, cantaloupes and other goodies. I'm ready! —kwc— I want to give a big shout out to Lynn Young, Geri Burnett, Barbara Nelson and Joan Ratliff for their contributions to Rockdale's sesquicentennial program. It will be filled with lots of Rockdale history and photographs from the olden days that you'll all enjoy.
We are working on the program now and hope to have it out before the total eclipse on Monday, April 8. There should be lots of visitors that day and if the program is out, they may come back and spend more money when we are celebrating our 150th anniversary. Thanks again, ladies, for all of your hard work! kyle@rockdalereporter.com
