My roommates and I do not like heated air in the house. Fireplace? That’s fine. But we just tend not to run the heater unless it’s absolutely necessary, especially at night.
I have slept so well the past several nights since it’s gotten cooler. A dark, cold room and lots of blankets are all I need to have the best night’s sleep. It’s been heaven to me.
I spent Christmas in Chicago visiting friends many years ago. Up there they don’t have the luxury of turning off the heater. I thought my nose would never recover from the heated air.
Mom usually makes toast in the morning and she’ll leave the oven open afterward to let the heat into the kitchen.
In the morning we are all bundled up in our pajamas and robes. Hot tea and toast, newspaper reading and silence are how we start the day.
If you come to visit us in the wintertime you’d better bring a jacket with you. My sister-in-law, Noelia, always freezes when she comes over. She dresses in off the heater at night and get some sleep. —kwc—
Speaking of voting, way to go Texas!
As of last Thursday more people in Texas had early voted than the total turnout in the 2016 election. That is an amazing accomplishment for us. Way to represent.
Just like the lottery, you can’t win if you don’t play. Voting is a right many have died for and it’s wonderful that our great state is participating in mass numbers. Hopefully the odds of your favorite candidates were in your favor. Local election news is on the front page.
The high turnout so far for Texas accounts for about 53 percent of registered voters in the state. Total registered voters has grown 12 percent since 2016, or almost 1.9 million people.
Last Thursday, 432,634 people voted in person, bringing the total in-person votes to 8,062,615, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s website. Ballots-by-mail, which will continue to come in, account for 947,235 votes so far.
Texas had 8.96 million total ballots cast in the 2016 election.
Way to exercise your right, fellow Texans! layers just in case.
At least 15 years ago – maybe more – Ken and Christine drew my name at Christmas and gave me a bathrobe that is my absolute favorite piece of clothing.
It’s tan, the ties are connected to the robe in the back, it has cigarette burn holes all over it and the pockets are tearing off due to all the use over the years. Yet I wouldn’t trade it.
It’s very warm and long and probably doesn’t contain even one natural fiber. Last year Mom took one look at it when I moved home and told everyone in the family that I needed a new bathrobe so that whoever drew my name at Christmas would know what to get me.
Noelia drew my name and got me a nice blue robe but it didn’t fit so luckily I didn’t have to give up my comfortable ugly old robe.
Friends tell me that they are having trouble sleeping lately. I do not have that problem thank goodness. Some are worried about
Some are worried about the virus. Others about the election. Are you wearing a mask and social distancing? Did you vote? Then you’ve done what you could. Let go and let God. Of course, others have other worries. We all do. But I think letting go works for all of them. Turn
