Rockdale Christmas Roundup was another huge undertaking again this year, and Rockdale ISD provided it’s much needed support for the success of this event.
As in prior years, students and staff members from all four Rockdale ISD campuses had the opportunity to volunteer or donate items and cash.
The annual Winter Wonderland & Parent Involvement Night hosted by Rock-dale High School with Rockdale Elementary, Rock-dale Intermediate School staff members was held Dec. 12. A variety of games and fun activities were provided for students along with hot cocoa and cookies. Parents were given the opportunity to receive information on many areas.
Door prizes were given away throughout the event, and major door prizes were given away at the end of the evening. This year Winter Wonderland raised $550 in cash donated to Roundup.
Rockdale Intermediate led the way in cash and donated items. RIS Student Council, students and staff donated $969 in cash.
Also, the campus collected 410 tubes of toothpaste, 879 toothbrushes, 210 bottles of shampoo, 49 bottles of lotion, 39 boxes of tissue, 20 deodorants, 244 combs and brushes, 288 bars of soap, 1,526 razors, 13 miscellaneous items for a total of 3,678 items collected.
Student officers from the Early Act First Knight (sponsored by the Rockdale Rotary Club) and RIS Student Council helped pack boxes Dec. 16 at the KC Hall during Roundup.
Rockdale Elementary School also did a great job collecting for Roundup
The total items donated by students were 430 tubes of toothpaste, 347 toothbrushes, 225 bottles of lotion, 880 bars of soap, 336 bottles of shampoo, 107 bottles of conditioner, 212 boxes of tissue, 243 combs and brushes and 70 deodorants. Collections began the first week of November with a total of 2,850 items collected. Rock-dale Elementary teachers donated $240 to support Roundup as well.
Rockdale Junior High campus collected 63 tubes of toothpaste, 45 deodorants and 78 Chapsticks for a total of 186 items.
Members of the Leo Club (sponsored by the Rockdale Noon Lions Club) sorted and counted food items donated at the junior high, and worked on Dec. 16 at the KC Hall to help with the packing of boxes with food and toys. RJH staff members donated $325 in cash for Roundup.
Rockdale High School Peer Assistance Leaders (PALs) assisted with sorting, boxing and counting food items on the elementary and RHS campuses.
Rockdale High School classes collected 102 bars of soap, 62 tubes of toothpaste, 37 bottles of shampoo, 17 bottles of conditioner and 49 deodorants for a total of 267 items.
The RHS Student Council was another group of students who helped with packing boxes Dec. 16.
A number of Rockdale ISD staff members volunteered and helped make Roundup a huge success again this year.
RISD donated a total of 6,981 items and almost $2,100 dollars in cash Rockdale ISD appreciates the opportunity to give back to our community especially during this time of year.
The Christmas holidays are always very special for the staff and students of Rockdale ISD as we have the chance to spend time with our families and friends.
On Monday, Jan. 6, staff members will be back at work for a Professional Development Day, and on Tuesday, Jan. 7, staff members will report for a work day.
Students will return to regular classes on Wednesday. Jan, 8.
