What do you think about these “spring” temperatures this week? Monday morning it was 37 at my house and on Tuesday, 39. I sure hope this is winter’s last hurrah before Easter. —kwc— Tuesday is our busiest day at the office, so I get lunch for the staff on the west side of town. This drive takes me through every traffic light in Rockdale at about 11 a.m.

One day when I was headed back to the office with the food every single light of the whole trip was green. All of them. And I remember thinking how unusual that was. There are times, especially during the lunch hour, after school, Friday nights during football season, among others, that traffi c is awful. Not even going the speed limit.

At some point, the city is going to have to plan another east/west corridor which we desperately need, having only the highway and Murray Street to get from one side of town to the other.

I usually avoid Murray Street on my way to work because of all the school traffic, but some days Cameron Avenue is just as bad during morning rush hour.

A loop around Rockdale is brought up every 10 years or s o. I r emember w riting the Looking Back column a while back and my brother had written a story in the 10 years ago section about the city (or maybe TxDOT) talking about a loop that used parts of both North FM 908 and FM 487 as the plan to loop around the city back to US 79 on the other side.

That hasn’t happened, of course, but at some point, we are going to have to do something with all the growth coming our way when the traffic is already bad at times.

I vaguely remember former City Manager Barbara Holly saying she had heard talk of a new road coming up to Rockdale from the south, but, unfortunately, I don’t remember any of the details. At any rate, that hasn’t happened yet either.

Luckily for our town, we have people planning for the future, so we aren’t caught off g uard w hen t he g rowth comes. Infrastructure like water and other amenities, and roads I assume. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out, although it does seem to me that using US 77 south of town would be a better fit for a loop than going north. —kwc— This week the Rockda le P TO organization announced that they have taken over the annual Easter Egg Hunt at Fair Park that is normally put on by the Chamber of Commerce. This year it will be held on Friday, A pril 1 8 f rom 1 0 a.m. to 1 p.m. and it sounds like there will be several hunts for different age children. Toddlers to 5th grade are able to participate at no charge.

There will be photos with the Easter Bunny, face painting, bounce houses and food and drinks. So mark your calendars because this is always a fun family event.
