Dear editor, My team and I are happy to provide you with another update and more about the Sandow Lakes Ranch (SLR) story. You already know about our Advanced Manufacturing and Logistics Campus (AMLC), but that is just one piece of our development destiny.
Our vision includes an integration of environmentally focused construction strategies, including “old to new,” “brown to green,” “purpose to re-purpose” and “adaptive reuse” to deliver thoughtful and sustainable outcomes for the future of SLR. Just know that you can’t just flip a switch and get there all at once. It will take time, over many iterative steps, and it will take an enormous effort from a lot of stakeholders to achieve our sustainability goals.
For example, SLR purchased the Sandow Steam Electric Station properties in late 2022. This purchase included the permanently idled coal fueled Unit 4 and Unit 5 power generation plants. Our team started demolition efforts on these facilities earlier this year in preparation for re-purposing and adaptive reuse. In support of this effort, within a few days, a portion of the Sandow Station facility will be demolished through a controlled implosion to make way for a future high-tech campus. This implosion event is the first of two such events planned for this facility.
This coal-based power station served the industrial enterprise and community well for many decades. It is now time to take the first steps in a transition towards an environmentally sustainable development that delivers on the economic future we envision for Sandow Lakes Ranch.
The implosion event will be highly controlled by professionals specializing in this type of work. While the exact date and time of the implosion will not be disclosed, we will be inviting some community members and the media to join us in witnessing and documenting the event.
Respectfully, Randall Kendrick CEO of Sandow Lakes Ranch
