Ican’t say enough good things about this year’s Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade. I had a blast and took way more photos than I can use in this issue. I put them all on The Reporter’s Facebook page so everyone can see them, especially for people who weren’t able to be there in person. A huge shoutout to Chamber Executive Director Denise Brock, Georgia Marshall, Chamber Board President Victoria Otto and board member Michelle Ferguson. If you see any of these ladies you should shower them with praise.
A funny thing happened just before the parade started. The traffic had already been stopped when two Chinese men came down the street in their car without their lights on. There were so many kids that I was afraid they wouldn’t be able to see them, so I ran out in the street to tell them. They spoke no English but there happened to be one parking space left in front of Rustic Charm Boutique and they pulled in.
One of them came up to me with his phone and asked it a question in Chinese and it translated it into English. He asked if the president was coming! I had to laugh at that. So I talked into his phone, and it translated what I said into Chinese. I told him it was a Christmas parade and also told him about not having his lights on. He got so excited about the parade.
Both men were just in awe, as if they had never seen a parade before and took pictures of every float as they passed by. And I think they were doing it because they wanted to and not because I was doing exactly the same thing for the paper.
As I said on the front page, the Chamber really outdid itself this year. Can’t’ wait for next year’s parade. —kwc— I’d also like to give a shout out to Terrace Harris Mitchell from Walmart. I never know how my Mondays are going to go and we were out of dog food. We always get the 44-pound bag and it’s too heavy and awkward for Dad to carry with his cane.
Terrace arranged for a guy to meet Dad at the door and the carry the bag to his car. She’s an angel and saved the day. The dogs are probably especially happy with her.
My Mondays when there is a 17-hour city council meeting after work are even worse. OK it might not have been that long, but it certainly seemed like it.
Planning and Zoning Commissioner Doug Williams was there and at one point he said, “Look, you can stay here until midnight debating about… (whatever they were debating about). I thought it was already midnight.
—kwc— Saturday morning after I took pictures at Breakfast with Santa, another fun Chamber of Commerce annual event, Noelia and I went to Costco for a few things we can’t get here. We were going to eat at the Texan Café in Hutto on the way home, but they were having a parade or some kind of festival so we decided to eat in Taylor.
Noelia looked up restaurants while I drove and she said, “Oh my gosh they have a Korean restaurant,” which neither of us knew about.
Turns out the restaurant, Seoul Food, has been open a year and the food is delicious. If you’ve been to Plowman’s Kitchen it is right near there. If you are standing outside Plowman’s looking at their front door, there are big brick buildings to the right and the restaurant is in one of them around the other side.
We had dumplings, kimchee rice and beef bulgogi and all of it was delicious. So if you need a Korean food fix, you can get it with only a 30 minute drive. Highly recommended. I didn’t get the owner’s name, but she was very nice and knew about Rockdale and even knew about our mayor’s barbeque spot, Brett’s Family BBQ & Tacos.
