Let’s just get the bad news out of the way first: for a variety of reasons there will be no Fall Music Festival this year. Very sad, but there were just too many obstacles for us to overcome.

Speaking on behalf of the Rockdale Downtown Association, Rockdale Chamber of Commerce, PAWS, The Kay Theatre and the PTO, please look forward to Oct. 1, 2022 for an even bigger and better Fall Music Festival. See you then.

I have some new neighbors who I really like, Joseph and Michelle Klingus. Joseph works at a big law firm in Austin and Michelle homeschools their three sons Obrey, Marin and Iain. If that isn’t enough, they also have several businesses they run including baking, photography and several online businesses.

The one I want to tell you about today is called AustIn-Fusions Herbals. They gave me a sample of one of their herbal drops called “Seven” which is for breathing. I swear after putting the drops under my tongue I can breath deeper. And for a smoker like me that is a good thing.

If you visit their website at austinfusions.square.site you will see that they have all natural drops for a variety of issues: allergies, pain, migraines, detoxing, trouble sleeping and more. I am sold. You should show them some love.

And speaking of showing some love, there are businesses downtown with lots to offer but no sidewalks to get you inside. As I write this TXDOT is putting up temporary sidewalks, so at least there will be that.

Mother and daughter team, Wendy Hall and Jacey Gray, are owners of Rustic Charm Boutique and Shear Gypsy Salon. They could both use some love because of the sidewalk fiasco that is downtown Rockdale.

Rustic Charm Boutique has a very unique collection of all kinds of clothes, purses, jewelry, hats, shoes, accessories, home décor, candles, lotions, soaps, scrubs, lip balms and gourmet dips. I even saw evening gowns and fancy party dresses.

Sheer Gypsy Salon is a full-service salon. Whatever you need, Jacey can do it. She also offers massage, facials and waxing. A one-stop shop for all your beauty needs. And you can have complimentary coffee, tea or wine while you shop. They have a clearly marked back entrance in the alley, so there’s no reason not to go.

These two ladies have been on a roller coaster ride. They opened in February right as COVID hit, had to close until May and now they are dealing with the sidewalk issues.

Gentlemen, basic haircuts are only $10 and both businesses offer gift certificates. I can’t think of any woman who wouldn’t be happy with a gift certificate to either place. Birthdays, anniversaries or just because you love her. So go show Wendy and Jacey some love and tell them Kyle sent you.

A bit of exciting news is that our FYI special section is coming to you in the paper today. We were not able to have it last year due to COVID, but this year’s issue is even better than before. It’s 40 pages of Rockdale-related information that is good to have around as a handy reference.

In addition, FYI goes into the city information packets for visitors and new teachers at the Chamber of Commerce, so it’s a great way to help visitors find your business. We worked very hard on this and I know you’re going to love it.

You can show your kids some love at Heavenly Treasures just before school starts.

For the month of August each item of children’s clothing is 25 cents. And why spend more than that since they grow out of them so quickly?

They are open Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon.
