MUSINGS OF MAVIS

Ihollered all day long.

These tall things must not have ears. After what seemed like an eternity, they finally lifted the grate, and I ran out and entered the building where it was nice and cool.

At first, they placed me unceremoniously in a trash can. I was not amused. Later, before my little house arrived, they put me in the paper shredder. Not through the paper shredder, mind you, but in with the already shredded paper which was pretty soft but all I wanted was out of there.

Finally, the bosomy tall thing took me to her house for the evening and I figured out the tall things weren’t all that bad. I had some very good food for instance. And I was much more relaxed after being stuck in that drain all day in the heat.

The next day the bosomy tall thing took me to the doctor. I got weighed and got a couple of stingy things. She also brought the poo I did in her truck inside for reasons unknown.

They next day I came back to the office and the tall things made me a little house with kitty pate food, water, a shoe box lid to go poo and pee in and a Kleenex box to sleep in. I was nice and cozy.

After a few nights of being locked inside my house the tall things decided that they would leave the door open at night and I had a big room to myself to play in. There were so many things to bat around and chase. It was like heaven.

A few weeks later, I moved across the hall to the other tall thing’s lair. I really like him. He is a good cuddler, but he doesn’t like it when I run across his keyboard when he’s working. Those moving fingers and all that tapping are hard to resist though.

Then I got another fancy box to “go” in. I love playing in it almost as much as I enjoy “going” in it. I do not like it when he removes my “business” and I try to stop him as much as possible. I buried that there for a reason. It’s not meant to be taken away as far as I’m concerned. It is mine after all.

Then one day I just decided that I didn’t like the kitty pate anymore, so I only eat the dry stuff which I love, although it is September, and my water bowl has a picture of a Christmas tree painted on the bottom. I suspect it is not new.

New toys were brought in on another day and I love them! There’s a scratching post and some stuffed mice that are so much fun to chase around. But I don’t want my old toys to feel left out so I still play with them. I’m told they are wadded up Post-It notes, whatever that is.

I had a perfectly good pink blanket with tassels to sleep on, and very soft it was. But then one day a tall thing called Crystal Denman brought me a covered bed and it is my favorite thing in the whole world. It sits up high right next to my favorite tall thing. I sleep in there in between bouts of driving him crazy with all of my pent-up energy. It’s also very close to that tapping keyboard so I can run across it with ease.

There is a big green book leaning against the wall. I like to run up it and hop across to the desk and run inside my new bed/house. There are also lots of different kinds of paper around this place. I love tearing up paper and leaving little bits of it all over the floor.

I’ve decided I need something else to call the tall things and I have decided on “staff.” Now it’s time to do some zoomies. I will let you know how everything is going later. Please feel free to visit me any time. I love visitors.
