Wendy Brinkley Pickett came to see me the other day and she told me some information I have to share because I am very excited about it.
You all already know that she has revamped the inside of Mr. Gatti’s Pizza in WayMar Plaza. What you may not know is that she is going to have a giant salad bar.
Have you been to Mike and Ann Glenn’s Mr. Gatti’s in Taylor?
Yes, it’s going to be like that. How wonderful!
Rockdale needs a good salad bar and now we will have one.
Whenever I go to Taylor to see our friends at Bland Jewelry or HEB, a meal at the Glenn’s Mr. Gatti’s is a must, just for the salad bar.
Now because of this COVID-19 mess the Pickett’s don’t know exactly how it’s going to work yet. They might serve cafeteria style and you can tell them what you want and they’ll fix your plate for you.
But however they choose to do it I am going to be first in line.
Wendy’s daughter and son-in-law, Taylor and Sebastian, are running this Mr. Gatti’s location and I wish them much success.
In other food-related news, Brad and Cassie Caffey with Caffey Corner have something new called “Tornados” ready to eat and spinning on a grill. I had them for breakfast the other day and I have to say they are very good. Cheesy and delicious. I think there are four different flavors. Give them a try when you need breakfast on the go.
Kenny Schneebli with Big Boy’s BBQ fed us at The Reporter recently. That was very nice of him, but I know he had a secret plan all along. He knew this fatty would be back for more. And it worked.
He made sausage stuffed with cheese, wrapped with bacon and bathed in BBQ sauce. I ordered them for Dad and me. Dad made a yummy sound during his first bite. Highly recommended.
Maricela and Martin Gonzales at Gonzales Mexican Bar and Grill supposedly have margaritas to go with your dinner. Something I heard through the grapevine. This is not news I personally know anything about. Ha!
I talked to my friends Robin and Scott Heintze and their son Pete the other day about buying beef. Their company is called Heintze Limousin and they make it super simple to buy beef.
If, like me, you are worried about actually having to meet the cow in advance: you don’t have to. But you can. Optional. But not for me.
I was prompted to talk to them because it seems like there will be a meat shortage. I know some restaurants and BBQ places are worried about availability and high prices.
We have access to a big chest freezer so that’s what got me interested. Anyway, they make it so easy. All you have to do is choose what you want and go pick it up already wrapped for the freezer.
I think small beef companies – or any kind of meat – are going to be popular in the very near future from what I see in the news about these large processing plants. Might be something to check out sooner rather than later.
There is a period of the cow being “fed out” before it can be taken to the processor, which is why you need to start thinking about doing this months in advance.
And if “fed out” means anything other than “frolicking around in a field without a care in the world and eating fresh green grass to his or her heart’s content with a sunflower necklace on” then I don’t want to know what it means. Happy in my ignorance, I am.
I understand that both Rockdale Meat Market and Thorndale Meat Market have menus you can order for the freezer as well. You pick whichever package meets your family’s needs.
So there are a few Rockdale goodies to eat and some goodies to start thinking about.
