FALLING FAR FROM THE TREE
Rockdale is going to get another new neighborhood in addition to Cornerstone Subdivision. Not much information has been provided, but what is known is that it will be on Texas Street and will be 200 homes, so much smaller than Cornerstone.
I had never heard of Texas Street, so I went on a drive to find out where is. It’s a great location for a neighborhood just east of downtown. If you have ever been too Rising Star Baptist Church, it’s on Texas Street. The road is paved but basically one lane so that will have to change if 200 homes are added.
Just past the church Texas Street turns into a dirt road and ends at a 187-acre property that is currently for sale for $3.7 million by Taylor Pickett with Oakstone Real Estate. There is another large tract of land, 196 acres, going for $4 million on Texas Street. I don’t know if either of those properties are where the subdivision is going to be built, but I do know that the developer hasn’t bought the land yet and isn’t expected to do so until December or into next year.
The city already has water on Texas Street because there are fire hydrants along the road. And there are some houses so there must be electricity.
It will be interesting to see what happens.
There should be more good housing news in next week’s paper from what I have heard through the grapevine. Also interesting was the fact that I had to back up from the dead-end property on Texas Street for what seemed like miles but probably wasn’t. I haven’t had to do that in a long time. —kwc— A pastor decided to add a little twist to his Sunday service. With a grin, he announced, “Today, we’re going to try something different. I’ll say one word, and you’ll sing the hymn that comes to mind!”
He kicked it off with, “CROSS.” Without missing a beat, the congregation launched into “The Old Rugged Cross.”
Next, he called out, “GRACE.” The response was immediate: “Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound...”
Then the pastor exclaimed, “POWER!” The congregation belted out, “There is power in the blood!”
Finally, the pastor said, “SEX.” Total silence. Eyes widened. People exchanged nervous glances, unsure what to do.
Suddenly, from the back of the church, an 87-year-old grandmother stood up and began singing in her shaky but proud voice, “Precious memories, how they linger...”
