There is nothing more heartbreaking than hearing about a sick child, and this town is jumping in to help. Don’t be downhearted. There are plenty of ways we can all assist with the efforts.
Alex is 10 years old and a fifth grader at Rockdale Intermediate School. She is the daughter of Terri York Sandoval and Andy Sandoval III, and her grandparents are Judy York and the late G. C. “Pete” York Jr.; Mary Real and Andy Sandoval II “Junior.”
There is a Team Alex account set up at Classic Bank for donations from the public. And there are other ways to help.
Jocelyn and Rodney Lewis with Rockdale Signs & Photography are offering tie-dye yard signs, car decals and banners for you to display your support. Checks can be made out to Team Alex. Call Rockdale Signs at 512-446-3346 to place your order.
Brett’s Backyard BBQ will host a drive through fish fry from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday. They will be joined by the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department, Kathy Quinney & Crew and the KC Hall Crew to cook some delicious fish plates for Alex and her friends. Their target is to sell 750 plates in two hours.
If you would like to help volunteer, you can let Rebecca Luckey know at 512-760-5775 or go sign up at Brett’s BBQ Wednesday through Sunday. Donations are needed to offset the cost of the food items and to-go containers. You can drop your donation off at Classic Bank, Brett’s BBQ or with Rebecca Luckey.
Desserts are also needed. If you are interested in making desserts, please call Linda Crane, who is coordinating desserts for this event.
With press times being what they are, unfortunately today (Thursday) is the last day to pre-order a “Strike Out Cancer – Team Alex” tie-dyed t-shirt. Sales are being coordinated by Rockdale Schools, Peace Lutheran Church and several businesses in town.
The shirts are $15 and orders are due today. To order contact Rebecca Luckey. You can pay by cash or check and she can also receive your order. Make checks payable to Team Alex. The Venmo payment option is @Team-Alex.
