The other night I was sitting outside while mom and dad were watching television at the opposite end of the house. Suddenly I got a text from “dad cell” which I knew was mom, not dad. It was a picture of the ceiling in the room they were in.

I jumped up out of my chair and ran down the hall thinking one of them had fallen and were trying to let me know. They were just sitting there and laughed at me for thinking such a thing. Crisis averted. Mom claims she did not send me any such photo.

Mom and dad’s phones are old and inextricably linked together. For a long time, no one in the family could tell who was texting us because invariably if it was mom it would say “dad cell” and the other way around.

Then one glorious day dad discovered emojis and his favorite one is the “cool” emoji with the sunglasses, and he now puts it on every text. Mom also discovered them, and she sometimes puts hearts, especially if she is talking about her grandchildren.

So thank goodness for emojis. They have solved all our family communication problems. —kwc— I got to take some nice nature photos this week of Rockdale Earth Day’s Yard of the Month for Wayne and Linda Cotten, and of Frankie and Annette Stone’s beautiful azaleas. Sure is nice to see springtime happening all over town. —kwc— My cousin, Susan Wallis Cole, is having a book signing and reading at Main Street Bookshop on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. This is for her second children’s book called Ella and Mac Want A Dog.

She had a successful reading for her first book, Ella and Mac’s Bakery. If you show up Saturday you can get 15% off a delicious barbecue order from 7 Bar Barbecue, so it’ll be a nice morning.

Dad went and got us some ribs and brisket from there this past weekend, and it was so good. Mom made beans and a big salad, and we had a feast.
