On Thursday I got my “big girl” surgery at the vet in Caldwell. On the drive over there down South TX 36, my dad pointed out that we are having an actual fall this year. The turning leaves were very pretty on the side of the road.
Also, you know that old rock house on the left? There was a white goat on the second- floor balcony just staring out at us like he belonged there. We decided the goat was a good sign that my surgery would go well.
The goat worked. All went well.
I did not appreciate my dad’s father wondering why I was getting fixed in the first place. He wondered if we thought a squirrel was going to get me pregnant. In case you haven’t heard, we’ve been having some squirrel issues at The Rockdale Reporter.
Anyway, I’m still just running around like nothing even happened and I’m glad I feel good. —m— What a fun Saturday in town. My dad told me all about it.
Breakfast with Santa was a big hit with both kids and parents. There were so many arts and crafts projects for the kids to do, and of course delicious pancakes from our wonderful Rockdale McDonald’s. There are lots of pictures in this issue.
And like the name implies, Santa was there. My dad kept calling him Doug Williams, but I don’t think that’s Santa’s real name, so he was probably just confused.
Then Dad said there was a big market at Wolf Park which was also very well attended. Lots of booths selling everything needed to make for a nice Christmas. Santa and one of his elves were also there.
One booth was selling Salvadorian food called papusas. What a treat that was for the Rockdalians. And Milanoans because Dad showed me a picture of Jaxon Owens eating one.
He also told me there was a big motorcycle ride on Saturday and I could hear them coming through downtown from The Reporter. How exciting! The Bad to the Bone Riders raise a lot of money and will donate it and lots of toys so that all the kids in Milam County will have a Merry Christmas. Dad says those are some very nice people and as of Saturday they had raised almost $10,000 with promises of more money and toys coming in as we speak. That’s the true spirit of Christmas right there if you ask me.
Then that night there was a lighted Christmas parade which came through downtown, and I could see the floats and cars from the windows at The Reporter. They were all just beautiful and I’m told the weather was perfect.
Dad says the winning entries in the parade were: Presidential Award—The Grand Marshalls which were Joyce Dalley, Outstanding Citizen of the Year; Terri Buchanan with CamRock Clinic, Business of the Year and Jason Hale with Street Ministries as our Organization of the Year and they were driven by John Marshall of Cardinal Roofing.
