FALLING FAR FROM THE TREE

Isaw something the other day that said, “Everything I know about the Kardashians I learned against my will.” And I totally agree with that, and I can’t imagine why they are still so popular.

In the morning I read papers that we subscribe to and I also enjoy looking at Yahoo because it has a well-rounded gathering of news from many different sources. But I also come across a bunch of “news” in which I have no interest. Like the Kardashians, much of it is about television shows, and I rarely watch TV.

I’m really tired of hearing about Jennifer Lopez. And Ben Affleck. While I am curious about Sean “Diddy” Combs and also curious about how his incarceration and lawsuits play out, I am tired of seeing him in my newsfeed.

Reading about these new Hollywood “stars” is not fun because I usually have no idea who they are.

I can’t think of the name of it, but evidently there is a show about a Mormon man who has lots of wives. I wonder why anyone would watch that, but to each his own.

I’m also tired of Guy Fieri. He needs to go away for good.

I do enjoy stories about what’s going on with social security now that I am 61 years old and getting closer for me.

I have always enjoyed, and still enjoy, reading about food. I think Yahoo must know this about me because there are always plenty of stories about it for me to read.

I am an English Royals fan and enjoy reading about their comings and goings. I’m still sad about the Queen dying yet I’ve never been to England.

Remember when Rudy Giuliani was “America’s Mayor” after the 911 attacks at the World Trade Center? My guilty pleasure is reading about him and how far he’s fallen in popularity with no one to blame but himself. I guess we all like to see our former heroes get the comeuppance.

So whatever news you like to read I hope we all get what we’re looking for this year.

-kwc This cold weather does not agree with me. My body is getting too old for it, so I’m glad we don’t have much of it, but I look forward to the time January and February are but a memory.

Last week I told you about my new chicken. I was very worried about her when I knew the weather was going to turn chilly. I got her a nesting box and filled it with shredded paper and put it on top of her perch on the garage refrigerator. She never went up there and has no idea it’s there.

For reasons unknown, she prefers to sleep in the woods between our house and the Silverthorne’s. You wouldn’t think a chicken would have enough feathers for freezing temperatures, but what I don’t know about chickens would fill volumes.

I do know that she comes out of the woods each morning when she sees that I am outside because she knows she’s going to get some chicken scratch and mealworms. At first, she’d be in the spot where I spread the food and when I’d come up to her, she would run pretty far away before coming back to eat.

Slowly but surely, she has realized I am not a threat and though she still backs away when I approach, she doesn’t go as far away as she used to.

I am hoping she will come sit in my lap in my chair one of these days.
