Just wanted to let you know Clyde, at a spry age of 96, recently underwent cancer surgery and is recovering at home in Temple with wife Marianne.

Former Rockdalian Bob Taylor of East Wenatchee, WA., sends this along:
During an annual physical exam, the doctor asked the patient about his daily activity level. The patient described a typical day this way:
“Well, yesterday afternoon, I waded along the edge of a lake, drank eight beers, escaped from wild dogs in the heavy brush, jumped away from an aggressive rattlesnake, marched up and down several rocky hills, stood in a patch of poison ivy, crawled out of quicksand and relieved myself three times in the woods.”
Inspired by the story, the doctor said, “You must be a real outdoors man!”
“No,” the man replied, “I’m just a lousy golfer.”

Now, I’m beginning to think Bob Taylor is psychic. I received that yarn from him just a week after taking up the game of golf again after a 50-year hiatus to play tennis. It has not been an easy transition. In fact, it has been downright humiliating.
I’m not sure I’ll stay with it. I make a fool of myself often enough just writing this column. (I saw you nodding in agreement. Stop it!)

• Polygram Records, Warner Bros., and Zesta Crackers join forces and become Poly, Warner Cracker.
• 3M will merge with Goodyear and become MMMGood.
• Zippo Manufacturing, Audi Motors, Dofasco, and Dakota Mining will merge and become ZipAudiDoDa.
• FedEx and UPS will join to become FedUP.
• Fairchild Electronics and Honeywell Computers will become Fairwell Honeychild.
• Grey Poupon and Docker Pants are expected to become Poupon Pants.
• Knotts Berry Farm and the National Organization of Women will become: Knott Now!
