Eastside City Council member David Melton held “An Eastside Conversation” to talk about issues and answer questions from interested people in Rockdale last Thursday night at The Office Steakhouse. About 50 people showed up including city and county officials. (The steakhouse is not yet open and The Reporter keeps hearing “opening soon.”) Rev. Royal Johnson opened the evening with a prayer and then Melton went over some issues he wanted to talk about before opening the floor for questions and discussion.

There were plenty of refreshments and a special cake (top left) made by Kelley Tater with KK Cakes featuring eastside landmarks including the I&GN Depot Museum, the Kay Theater and the beautiful mural on the Rockdale Municipal Development District’s south wall by mural artist Sam Welty.

Above, MDD Economic Director Jim Gibson discusses Rockdale’s comprehensive plan which will be distributed in a few weeks. The plan will be a guide which takes Rockdale to the year 2050.

At right center, Melton is answering questions from the audience and, below that, Rev. Willie Phillips and wife Kinus, Barbara Grayson, Carolyn Cooper and Rita Quinn lined up for cake and visiting after the talking was over.

See letter to the editor on page 4A for some follow-up information about the evening from Melton.
