Plans for Rockdale Earth Day, which again this year includes activities for an entire month, are underway, according to event spokesman Dave Melton.

He noted 2019 is Rock-dale’s fifth annual celebration and many activities are planned throughout the month.

Beginning April 1, there will be an Earth Day display at the Lucy Hill-Patterson Memorial Library.

The city’s annual Stash Your Trash event will be held Saturday, April 13.

EVENTS—On Saturday, April 20, Master Naturalists will provide educational opportunities and free gifts at The Community Room on North Main Street from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

During the week of April 22, Rockdale Iron and Metal will offer an enhanced rate, to be determined for aluminum cans.

The annual day of community service will kick off at 9 a.m. on Monday, April 22, at the high school gym.

Breakfast tacos and beverages will be provided for all volunteers, prior to teams spreading around town for litter pickup, plant and tree planting, and other projects. Touch of Elegance Catering will be providing this year’s breakfast.

As a fundraising project, the committee is selling Rockdale Earth Day t-shirts.

Anyone interested in purchasing should contact a committee member, or stop by the Chamber of Commerce to place an order before March 22.

This year’s committee members include Joyce Dalley, Deta Donnelly, Monique Gebhart, Terry York-Sandoval, Gary Griesbach, Rey Mata, Dave Melton, Brad Owens and Collier Perry.

COLORING CONTEST—An Earth Day coloring contest is being held in conjunction with the 2019 event.
