In one of the more bizarre twists in police procedure, additional charges were filed against a 25-yearold Austin man after finding evidence they said was hidden behind a toilet at the police station.

Marcos Ortiga-Chirino was one of two persons charge with credit card fraud two weeks ago after police said 30 illegally “skimmed” credit cards were found in a vehicle.

Lt. Stephen Goodrich after police reviewed video and audio of the arrest they checked out a restroom which had been used during the booking process and found 35 additional cards.

An additional charge of tampering with or fabricating physical evidence was filed. “This also brought the number of items in the original charge to a point where it is now enhanced to a first-degree felony,” Goodrich said.

Ortiga-Chireno remains in the county jail in lieu of $110,000 bond.

ACCIDENTS—Police said vehicles operated by Tyler Burge and Michael McGowan, both of Rockdale, were in collision at 12:12 p.m. Feb. 7 at Sonic Drive-In. Damages were termed moderate to minor.

Police listed drivers in a two-vehicle collision at 2:21 p.m. Thursday, in the 500 block of West Cameron (US 79), as Thomas Riojas and Levi Mullen, both of Rockdale.

Damage estimates were not available from police.

Police were called to a two-vehicle collision at 12:23 p.m. Monday at the Cameron-Main (US 79-FM 908) intersection as Mickey Castillo and Michelle Fisher, both of Rockdale.

Damages were termed minor.

FORGERY—Police were advised by Lee County an investigation had revealed forged checks were passed at Midway Grocery in Rockdale.

Goodrich said an investigation has identified two suspects believed to be involved and arrest warrants have been issued.
