About 100 Rockdale High School seniors—the graduating class of 2020—will get to “walk” after all.
It won’t be together, but school officials are trying to make it as much like all other RHS graduations as follows.
Beginning Thursday, May 7, seniors and their immediate families (parents/guardians and siblings only) will arrive at Tiger Stadium at pre-assigned times for mini-graduation ceremonies designed to follow social distancing guidelines as nearly as possible.
RHS Principal Brent Hasselbach said the families will present diplomas to seniors.
“There will be multiple photo opportunities with the graduate and their family,” Hasselbach said.
Also on tap will be a photo op on the stadium scoreboard, official graduation photo, the formal tassel move and cap toss, he said.
HOW IT WORKS— Seniors were to have picked up their caps and gowns on Wednesday, April 29 and an email with assigned times has been sent to families.
“If you cannot make your schedule time due to a conflict, please contact Debra Neal at 512-430-6140, extension 2010, prior to Wednesday, May 6,” Hasselbach said.
Seniors arriving for the mini-graduations should park in the home lot and remain in their vehicles until their assigned times.
“Dress is graduation attire. Boys are to wear khaki pants, white shirts, dark socks, a tie and dress shoes or ‘nice’ boots,” he said. “No facial hair. No shorts.”
“Girls are to wear dresses or ‘nice’ dress pants. Costume jewelry should not be worn on the gowns. Remember the gowns are lightweight material,” Hasselbach said. “No shorts.”
PARADE—A graduation stay-in-vehicle parade is planned on Friday. May 29, the scheduled evening of commencement.
Hasselbach said the route will be announced later.
That will be followed by a “virtual graduation viewing” at 8 p.m. in the stadium parking lot.
