Details aren’t being released but officials involved in the process say there’s “progress” being made in the effort to reclaim at least some health care facilities for Rockdale.
County Judge Steve Young said some progress has been made by “the Rockdale Hospital Board and a lot of others.”
The county judge has also been involved in the talks.
Young said talks have continued since Rockdale’s medical facilities were shut down the first week in December.
“Talks have continued, there are entities who have expressed an interest and it appears an agreement may be made soon,” he said.
NO HOSPITAL—From the get-go in early December, health care officials said it was unlikely the hospital would ever re-open and that still appears to be the case.
“It appears getting a hospital back is out of the question,” Young said.
But he added: “The hope is to get at least a clinic open and then later add additional care.”
“It is anticipated the clinic will provide routine medical care, at least in the beginning,” Judge Young said.
Young said hospital board members, led by chairman Dick Burns and including Terry Browning and Karolyn Puccio, along with others, have participated in the meetings.
He told The Reporter that the ongoing Chapter 7 Bankruptcy is a factor in the talks, noting that access to facilities is a matter to be resolved through the bankruptcy court.
