SHERIFF’S REPORT
Felony arrests after two separate investigations were made during the past week by the Milam County Sheriff’s Department, according to Sheriff Chris White.
TRAFFICKING—White said the sheriff’s department, Texas Attorney General’s Child Exploitation Unit (CEU) has obtained warrants for the arrest of Evan Elon Webber, 31, of Cameron, Texas.
Webber was charged for compelling prostitution, trafficking a child/engaging in sexual conduct and online solicitation of a minor (a 3rd degree felony).
“The Milam Sheriff’s Office case stems from an outcry made to the School Resource Deputy at the Cameron High School, while the attorney general case started from a cyber-tip posted to their online tip reporting system,” White said.
He said statements taken from the child indicated that “on more than one occasion” the child was enticed by Webber to engage in sexual activities for money and/ or alcohol.
“After we reviewed the statements and evidence and concluded that we could file the trafficking charge due to the elements of the case. It was clear that Webber ‘obtained’ the child through coercion and further ‘compelled’ the child to engage in prostitution,” White said.
Webber was located and arrested in Oklahoma.
BURGLARIES—White said Thursday morning a search warrant was executed in the 200 block of North Main in Thorndale on Thursday
The sheriff said the search warrant allowed deputies to search for and recover stolen property from within the home and buildings located on the property.
“Details and evidence obtained by deputies indicated that the resident, Pepper Sue Bowsher, was responsible for burglaries committed throughout central Texas over the past 30 to 60 days,” he said.
Currently, Bowsher is facing charges of two burglaries in Milam County, five burglaries in Travis County, and one in Tom Green County.
“During the investigation it was revealed the suspect was using her residence in Thorndale to store stolen items,” White said.
A search warrant was issued by 20th District Judge John Youngblood early and deputies along with Thorndale Police and Travis County Sheriff’s Investigators searched the residence.
“During the search investigators determined that several pieces of property were related to the Travis County burglary cases and were seized for return to their owners,” White said.
“There were no items that could be positively identified as belonging to any other victims, including the cases involving Milam County residents, “ the sheriff said
“Although we did not recover any other stolen property from our own burglary cases, investigators are continuing to examine other leads and are moving forward with the investigation, White said.
