One of Milam County’s busiest highways is set to close at an intersection for about 10 days beginning Friday. It’s at the US 190/79-Texas 36 corner just north of the Union Pacific Railroad overpass in Milano. Bob Colwell of the Texas Department of Transportation told The Reporter on Monday the railroad had advised an unknown truck hit the bridge over the weekend, making repairs necessary. Colwell said Texas 36 will be closed at the intersection. US 190/79 remains open. TxDOT signboards (upper right) are already in place this week and advise motorists of the closure. TxDOT’s alternate route for travel between Milano and Caldwell is a long one, 79/190 to Hearne, Texas 6 to Bryan, then Texas 21 back to Caldwell. A shorter way is to take FM 908 by either turning south on Main Street in Rockdale or take US 77 south at the overpass at the east Rockdale city limits to FM 908 at Coffield Airport and turn east on the farm-market road. Milano residents, of course, know how to avoid the closing site by using city streets
