DPS troopers are searching for a black sedan involved in a hit and run accident Sunday that claimed the life of an 11-year-old girl.

The wreck happened at 3:22 p.m., according to a Texas Department of Public Safety report.

Two vehicles were traveling south on US 190 less than a mile from Milano when two vehicles in the northbound lanes moved into the southbound lanes to pass cars in a no-pass zone.

The black sedan hit the right side of one of the vehicles heading south while the second vehicle, a Chevrolet Malibu, trying to pass, hit the second southbound vehicle, a Jeep.

The girl, 11, a passenger in the Malibu, was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:30 p.m. by Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Andy Isaacs.

The drivers and other passengers, all out-of-county residents, in the Malibu and Jeep were taken to Temple-area hospitals with non-incapacitating injuries, according to the DPS.

DPS is requesting that anyone with information about the wreck, or information identifying the black sedan and its driver, contact the Milam County Sheriff’s Office at 254-697-7033.
