TWC: 25% of laid off have jobs
$2.3 million in federal funds sought for training, job search after Alcoa closure
Roughly a quarter of those laid off when Alcoa closed its Rockdale Operations have found work, local Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) officials said. Last week, the TWC announced that it has requested a $2.3 million National Emergency Grant from the U.S. Department of Labor. Full Story

April jobless rate falls to 9.7%
Milam dips below 10% for first time in three months
Milam County's jobless rate fell for the third straight month after the effect from industrial layoffs pushed it to 10.9 percent in January. Milam's rate for April was 9.7 percent, down from 10.4 in March, the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) reported. Full Story
