Local hero

Richard Henderson

Our Local Hero this week is Richard Henderson.

Mr. Henderson is the Commander of the Rockdale VFW Post No. 6525 and has been a member of the post since 2002 when he retired from the military after 26 years of service.

He moved to Rockdale because he liked the area and the people and he knew he wanted to make Rockdale his home. When he got here he got involved in the town. He is a member of the Allen AME Church, Original 12,

Eastside Tutoring, the VFW and a number of other organizations. He said he saw areas that he could work with and he felt he could make a difference.

His main purpose in life is to, "improve the community and work with youth."

I appreciate Mr. Henderson for his willingness to get involved in Rockdale and make it better.

I also appreciate Love's Flowers & Gifts, Tisket A Tasket, and El Torito Mexican Restaurant for the gifts they provide our Local Hero each week.

If you would like to nominate a local hero, those who work selflessly for our community, call the Chamber of Commerce at 446- 2030. This honor will be given to people who work hard to make our community better.—Denice Doss, Chamber president
