Milam Community Theater sets 'Sound of Music' auditions
Auditions for "The Sound of Music," the summer production from Milam Community theater, will be held 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday June 1 and 2 at the Williams Civic Center in Cameron.
San Lorenz, who just completed a successful run at the helm of Cameron's U.I.L. One- Act Play effort, will direct the musical which will be staged Aug 1,2, 7 and 8 at the Performing Arts Center.
"We're very excited about getting San to direct this," said Bill Whitmire, president of the t heater's board of directors. "We've tried to get her back several times over the years. We'll need a lot of help with this show so please come and try out. We promise, you'll have a great time this summer."
Whitmire suggested everyone be prepared to sing something during the auditions and said rehea rsa ls a re held Monday through Thursday evenings beginning at 7 p.m.
The play tells the story of a real family who escaped from Austria ahead of the Nazi invasion in the late 1930s.
The script calls for a cast of 20 or more including four men, three young girls (ages 4-10) and a young teen age girl (up to 17), two or more teen aged boys (aged 15-17) thee nuns (any age), several other women (of nearly any age), four men (aged 20-60) plus as many friends, neighbors, soldiers and chorus members as are willing to participate.
