Tax appraisal time in Rockdale usually brings some surprises but in 2009 at least one class of local business owners are in shock. Taxable values on motels have increased by as much as 1,000 percent after the Milam County Appraisal District (MCAD) applied an income-based formula to appraise motels in the wake of two good years triggered by the Sandow 5 construction boom. Start it up: Earlier Jubilee Days kicks off mid-week
Jubilee Days, Rockdale's annual summertime event, returns to its traditional place on the calendar this week with a rodeo, dances, barbecue cookoff and more. Events were to have gotten under way Wednesday with team roping in the Fair Park arena and will continue through Saturday night's dance with Cody Hughes Davidson in the park pavilion. Full Story

Richard Earl Williams Jr., president of Classic Bank, announced three promotions within his organization: Tom Loth to vice president, Joanna Rackley to vice president and Kathy Sheppard to assistant vice president.
